GT Kit Resurrected In Alloy?

With the GT 186 kit down to the last 30 units available, there may be a better and a bigger version to come. An alloy steel linered version of the 186 and possibly a 225cc version using a 110mm rod and TS250er piston, but only if the CAD design process works out ok.

A while ago someone was working on a SR barrel to which they'd fitted a GT reedvalve. It looked quite neat from some of the original pic's but it seemed to disappear. Anyone know if it ever got finished ? It pre-dated this forum so it maybe the wrong place to ask - this thread just reminded me about it !
Alloy barrel steel linered GT kit sounds like kit that lots of people wished it was originally - I hope it makes it into production and that Richard Taylor makes some money out of it.

If the drawings are turned into reality, then maybe a Four stud arrangement on the exhaust flange to allow a std U-pipe to fit and if wanted a stronger four point mounting, similar to the RT from MB...

sounds a strange thing to say but i rode my zundapp bella today. its so torqey that you go through the gears with ease, not everybodies cup of tea but everybody thats ridden it has commented on how good it is to ride. made in 1956

its the same power delivery....plus some that i would love to see come from this kit. chuck it in a gear and expect it to just pull. revs and acceleration can be had by other kits, the 186gt was spot on so hopefully this will come out to satisfy the lust for grunt rather than revvy power.

left hand carb option again with a tm24 and clubman, 60 stroke hpc 110 rod crank and 70/71mm piston revving like an mz firing at every second lamp post 8-)

YEEES!!!! :bouncing: Put me down for one of each! RT happy to put a deposit down now :D --would really love to see this come into fruition. Forget the RBs and other high revving kits this is just what the doctor order for pulling my skinny ass around on a traffic heavy daily commute.

gerat idea and if anyone deserves to make it work richard does, just one thing why not make the exhaust mounting a stub like the px? anything has to be better than the crap idea that is the std mounting ?

The head is planned to be recessed but perhaps not in the way you would expect. The problem with recessed heads is that once the barrel is bored over size the head is effectively scrapped because of the gap between the new cylinder wall and the old head profile. The plane is to recess the head on the outside, beyond the limit of the bore, consequently the same head can be retained even after multiple oversizes.

The exhaust profile will be standard, this is purely for compatibility (a key feature of GT kits). I do recognise the importance of a strong exhaust stud fixing and this is a significant weakness in several other alloy designs. I like the 4 stud pattern from MB, it is a nice piece of lateral thinking, however with this design I intend to use a steel threaded barrel insert which is inserted into a hole that is cross drilled through the exhaust stud hole. This way, there is no alloy thread to strip and if you were unlucky enough to strip or cross a thread the old insert can be removed (it is a loose fit) and a new one inserted.
