rear light problems

the rear light on the back of the lammy was alwas pretty dim, s i bought a led rear bulb, fitted it last night and it works, sort of

when the lights are off, and i put the brake on, it lights

when the headlights lights are on, the rear lights and when i put the brake on, there is no change

when the lights are off and i put the brake on, the brightness is similar to that of when the lights are on, if that makes sence?

iam lead to beleve that the wires may be back to front??

when it had the filiment bulb in, i had a dim tail light and a dim brake, but both worked with headlights on or off

Try it on a battery to see if there is any noticable difference between the two.

Some LED replacements have very little difference between tail and brake light intensity.

I had a sparkright technologies in my trusty series 3 and it's ace

I have one in my series 2 and it's rubbish. When I brake, the intensity change is minimal.

As already mentioned, try it on a battery and see what happens....

I fitted an extra strip of LED's to the back of my scooter after seeing a similar set-up on the Capt's scooter AND because I couldn't see much difference between the back-light and brake-light on the LED bulb I had purchased. It is fitted just above the number plate.

There is a greater difference if I run the LED stop-and-tail bulb from the battery (LED's only work with one polarity, so they give less light with AC power), but I thought that extra row of lights would be my extra safety measure.

Incidently, if your rear lights have been a problem, might I suggest that you check your earth wire to the light unit? Prog54 has some lighting issues the other day, and much of his problems with the back light were down to a poor earth wire that ran from the light-housing onto the bulb holder. We ran an earth from the regulator box mounted above the back mudguard down onto the bulb-holder and the problem disappeared. We ran the earth wire in the wiring loom sleeve so it didn't show; all it needed was a small nick in the loom and we slide the earth wire through. Very neat.
