Lower chain gaurd

What's the general view on lower chain gaurds? I've heard that some people leave them off due to the possibility of them breaking and jaming the sprockets :shock:

I've got to change my chain soon, I have a green nylon top tensioner, just wondering if I should remove the bottom one, any thoughts?

Don't use one with 'slippier than a slippy thing' top tensioner on my GP. No problems in two years?

Definitely remove it - mine snapped at low speeds - just after a thrashing on the dual carriageway and went round the front sprocket - instantly locking the engine up solid :shock:
