Hi all i'm in the process of stripping a 1970 gp for resto.. I got to removing the rear hub wich was a b**tard...and noticed these breake shoes were a bit odd...

Image

i was wondering why they had an almost 2mm perfect wear band on both shoes...and spotted this

if you look at the edge of the hub all the splines have a notch at the end of roughly 2mm....

has this hub been put on wrong in the past which has not allowed the hub to sit far enough back causing the odd wear on the shoes...or is it supposed to be like this...

And is this hub now toast?

it may be a daft question but I've only had, and worked on LD's so far..

Cheers Jason

That hub is knackered and needs replacing. It shouldn't have those notches and it looks like it hasn't been located properly after the damage was caused and therefore incorrectly tightened. Just make sure you replace with decent quality and don't use one made by RAMP.

looks okay to me ,possibly had the wrong cone on it at one time or not tightened properly .should of gone to wickstead and left her taxi money  then again if she would of dropped while you were away you would only hear it for ever and ever and ever and ever .good luck with the birth .
