Wont Start!

Hi, last week I went out on a short 15 mile run on my 1971 Spanish SX200 parked it up in the garage and next day it would not start. Checked the spark and a weak brown sparky attempt was all that I had. I replaced the Blue coils with a black one, no different. Replaced the coils of the dynamo and now have a lovely blue spark. Still wont start. Stripped the carb and cleaned all I could, carb was loose, re assembled still no Joy. Plug does not seem wet considering the amount of times Ive kicked it.

Petrol getting into the carb went everywhere when I turned it up side down. Drained the petrol and put fresh mix in. Polished my mirrors, Florida bars, back rest, wheel carrier still wont start.
Can anyone suggest some simple checks for me to do before I send her away?

Get one of those plastic syringes..the type you use to give babys calpol.

, syringe some petrol into it then put it down the plug hole and put your plug back in (pre-warmed over gas hob) then if it fires straight up it looks like fuel not getting through..always works for me, just trail and elimination. If no fire then work back throughly plug/cap/lead/CDI or coil..etc...etc..etc.
Good luck mate
Andy.

Thanks Andy I'll try that. Seems strange that the plug is not wet..Replaced all the electrical bits today including ign switch, stator plate and coil, which gave me a real good spark which I didnt have. Could it be a compression issue? Looks like original carb but everything seems to have cleaned up ok. I did think that I could have put too much oil in the pre mix but I have emptied the fuel out and done another mix of 5 litres to the plastic measure full, says 2% mix. Must be 30 years since I have done anything like this....

Do as coaster recomends and check your choke, the only time mine has,nt started in years and it was the choke, i pulled the cable by hand and we were away

Air lock in plastic petrol pipe? Simply disconnect lower end of pipe, turn petrol tap on and when fuel is running reconnect petrol pipe. Solved a similar problem I had................

Petrol getting to carb, when I turned it upside down the fuel came out of the float chamber, disconnected the pipe and let the petrol run into a cloth to check. I need to check the idea of putting fuel into the plug hole, just need to find a suitable vessle. Dont have a syringe as suggested. The choke slide is moving ok. Will try tomorow night.
