Ancilotti Exhaust Failure

On the way to the 4 nations rally my Ancilotti exhaust parted company with my engine, this exhaust was only on the scooter for 15 months and has done less than 2000 miles in that time. Surley it should have lasted abit longer than that i have clubmans exhausts that have lasted years. I have included two pictures showing the damage.

The exhaust bracket ripped straight off the main exhaust body and the stainless manifold snaped just under the flange, which in turn ripped a gash in my rear tyre when it parted company then the exhaust passed under the car behind me bounched up and hit the next car on the bonnet and then the wind screen.

Made a nice mess of the cars bonnet and cracked the windscreen and frightened the life of the poor girl who was driving, thankfully only soiled underware all around and no injurys to anyone but my pocket is going to take a hit.

Prior to the exhaust parting i did notice the exhaust tone got increasingly noiser and i slowed down abit and was about to pull over when it all went bang, thankfully i was running tubeless tyres with slime in them so my rear tyre stayed up.

From memory, when these exhausts first came out one or two other people had problems with them, with the flange snapping off the stainless U-bend I think. Glad you lived to tell the tale.

I love the performance but the bl00dy thing is made of cheese. Its been welded back together three times now.

I noticed mine was splitting in the same place after i came back from France last year, cezeta :ugeek: had it welded up for me and fitted a bracket at the bottom so it now bolts to the bottom of the crankcase like i believe they should.
I am happy with the performance/look so wouldn't want to change

I have repaired one of this pipes that broke on the way back from Lincoln. The shark's fin bracket broke off. I put a screwdriver under the remains of the bracket and peeled it off the body of the silencer. The metal just came away like cheese.

Really horrible, sub standard metal.

is it the ancillotti pipe with the stainless u-bend from tino sacchi ?
i f so, i think they are made by sito and i don´t know why they have to cost
the 2,5 x price of a standart sito box...
:(
funny thing is i never had problems with my standart sito-boxes.

the Ancillotti has to be modified a bit on most engines, better said cylinders. I mentioned why it fits better onto a Mugello or Monza in an older thread, maybe this was on the old forum. Anyway, the box really has to slide onto the downpipe and be fixed without tension. Extending the holes for the 8mm bolts and shortening the downpipe helps. Also look out that the engine casing bolt where the stinger pipe is fixed is in good condition and most important you have the reinforced newer style downpipe.
Had mine on the whole rally season, just checked it for cracks or sign of wear - no problems.

Mines starting to crack along the 'L' part of the bracket and the lower hole has been destroyed, bugger to get on and off.. havent looked at the flange, might have a look at the weekend and weld the lower bracket on at the same time as the repairs...
