After years out of the scene I'll be back on the road again this year :-)
Now years ago I had accumulated the tools that i knew I could achieve most roadside repairs with. Those tools are long resigned to the bin, so I though I would start a thread where I could appreciate what I should consider packing this year to keep me mobile. I'll start the bidding with;-

plug key
8/10/12/13/21mm sockets & wrench
8/10/12/13/21mm spanners
adjustable spanner
pliers
long nose pliers
prop stand
flywheel puller
flat & cross headed screwdriver
gear cable innner
clutch cable inner
solderless nipples
spark plug
woodruff key/s
length wire
connector block (ensure screwdriver fits)
insulating tape
spare fasteners/nuts/bolts/washers
headlight & taillight bulbs

what in yours ?

Can anyone recommend a multi tool that doesn't cost a fortune or has it got to be Leatherman, if so which one?

I don't carry half that stuff but I do cary a multi tester and a spare CDI and regulator. LED rear lamp so don't need one of those.

That's for scooting around locally (within 50 mile radius), if I was going further I'd probably suplement the above. Agree that the flywheel puller isn't a lot of use without a holder.

I carry most of what has been previously mentioned but also a spare inner tube and bicycle pump. How come nobody carries an 11m spanner
for the brass nuts on a lamby exhaust? I have always carried a Vega chain to hold the flywheel as it fits nicely over the rear hub nut and flywheel fins.

After running out of fuel and forgetting my wallet on a test run round the Brussels ring I now always have a 20 euro note in a plastic money bag in my tool roll.

As for tools I've got more or less what is listed above. I couple of screw nipples in different sizes always help too, that way you may be able to jury rig broken cables. I also carry a very small bike pump and puncture repair kit. Even though I have a spare tire behind the legshields, you never know, you may have to help somebody else fix a puncture.

Agreed though that a charged mobile phone and valid break down cover is probably the highest priority.

Mention of bycicle pumps reminds me, I have a gas powered tyre inflator which I carry in my Vespa tool box, I bought it from Cycle Surgery, £9.99 I think, its very small and does actually work. Refills are £10 for 5.

Nice tip about the vega chain btw, who stocks them?
