Was at mersea island rally over weekend and had a few too many light ales and was convinced to stick my RB on the dyno they had there. Shouldnt have done it as result is a fried clutch (anyone wheo saw it will be wincing now) and it riding like an old Shi**er all the way back. Think (hope) its just the stator plate come loose so will check that tonight.

Anyways I now have to get a new clutch as the 4 plate even with uprated springs simply isnt up to the job. Have been looking at the Jap conversion SSC one for £130 (as per aticle in last months scootering), apparnatley they have just produced a mark 2 which has been improved or the cam Lam 6 plate easy feel which i think comes in at £250?

Both of these are meant to be up to the job and should also be able to handle a road tune that i plan to do later in the year. I know its been done to death but does anyone have any feed back on the above re how easy to fit, performance etc or wants to reccomend anothere set up. I dont really want to go above the £250 mark as money is tight, hence looking at the SSC option.

Have you thought about JB's 5 plate clutch got one fitted in my Series 2 TS and one in an RB 20 seem spot on so far

Im using a four plate with extra strong springs in my rb20, and it seems to cope ok . its with 18/47 sprockets so it gives the clutch an easier life than 16/46

Hope you've not damaged it too much, camlam 6 plate in my rb20 really rate it , no hint of slip or drag and done around 1200 miles.

My scooter has nothing like the power of your RB, but I still has clutch slip on my four plate, which surprised me. I bought a surflex "green" 5 plate from Andy Francis and it went ina treat and the clutch slip has gone. It works because the "cork" plates are much thinner, so the extra plates can go in (the smooth plates are the same thickness). I am pleased with the results, though this is combined with an RD clutch lever and a nylon lined cable. Easy-peasy. The surflex plates are £35 for a full set of springs, clutch plates and smooth plates.

I modified the Innocenti crown wheel to allow the outer tabs to drop further as the clutch is pulled in, but I don't think this was necessary. However, with this modification, I think it would be possible to fit a six plate version of the surflex clutch (using two packs of plates) and the 1.2mm thick smooth plates from Taff.

It is great that there are so many options available for clutches.

The one in my TS in a series 2 had it Dynod at Chiselspeed Martin told me to bin the four plate due to heaviness of ehe scooter so bought 5 plate of John @ £125 i think for clutch and machined sprocket done @ 800 miles so far no slip and easy on the hand , one in the RB20 only done @ 150 miles so far so cant really comment yet
Give him a ring top bloke to speak fo and for advice as well

i have one of jb,s green clutches in my ts1 done 1000 miles no problem at all not bad to pull too...not big money ether.

Toddy, was that £125 all in? or would i need to get anything else? Also what clutch set up should i refer to when talking to him about it.
