lightened flywheel

Hey ! if i was to get my own flywheel lightened , would i have to re-set the timing when puting it back on ?

If you didn't mark it before you took it off, yes. Otherwise if all else is the same, then no. Woulnd't hurt however to check it with a strobe anyway.

I take you dont have to do any mods to the mag housing if its my own flywheel thats getting lightened ?

if your happy with your timing as is ......then simply lighten your flywheel and refit...................
why would you think that flange /mag housing would need altering........?

The timing wouldn't have changed unless you'd removed the stator too.

Correct. Lightening removes material along the outer edge of the flywheel on either side of the screws that hold it together.

Read some threads on using the AF ones you need to modify the Mag housing ! was'nt sure if you had to do the same with lightening your own !!

I think I'm correct in thinking that's because the AF lightened flywheel projects deeper into the mag housing necessitating reduced height stator bolts (and sometimes machining of the mag housing) ??

the later ones have a shim fitted to raise the flywhel and trigger point
