Ok I'm looking to build a Rapido 250 engine for my new project. What kind of setup do you think I should go for? I really don't want a rev monster lookin for something a bit torquey but with a turn of speed.
I was thinking
Mild work on the barrell (really just to tidy up a bit)and the casing transfer ports
Matched inlet port to manifold
30mm Del
Clubman exhaust

Not sure about the clutch but I suspect four plate with uprated springs would be fine
Standard GP200 box and front sprocket
What kind of BHP/top end & cruising speed should i expect out of this?

I don't like Rapidos......its just my opinion/personal preferance, but i'd either go for a touring tune on a TS1 or a decent stage 4 tune on a cast iron barrel instead, with a longstroke crank....all matched to the carb/pipe/g-box that you mentioned.

The TS1 wins on alloy cooling and performance, and the stage 4 wins on value......IMHO.....

use the 250cc with decent timings like:

exhaust 175°-178°
inlet 145-148°
transfers 120°-125°

an torquey exhaust like JL3 or Taffspeed Road and 30 mm carb.

This should give an powerfull engine with a lot of grund.

22bhp and 20ft/lb torque all below 6700 rpm thats what i have been told should be available from my classic 225 rapido using a 62mm stroke crank, 24mm mikuni and clubman exhaust,
will post later this year when my engine comes back from replay scooters

As Fishi says the 250 Rapido is a proper mile muncher with a decent pipe and the right gearing.

Taffspeed or JL3......

Although I'm building a TS tour tune at the mo as I struggle to run things in!! :D
