I have just been trying to cobble together a ride for IOW and i put a loom and electronic kit on my TV 2. I managed to get it going, after wrecking two coils (the red wire was a yellow wire, not like the diagram. THose pesky indians) and i was feeling really chuffed with myself, so I decided to try the lights, but when i turned the key BZZZZZZZZZZ, i got a belter of a shock from the key. I screamed like a girl and dropped the scooter on the floor.
Can 12 volts give you such a shock, or have i somehow managed to get the HT to feed the lights? It still runs ok, but i an scared to try the lights again. I may approach it with wellies and rubber gloves next time. Also, will this lover / improve my sperm count?

You wouldn't feel 12v, but the LT circuit cut out wire up to the switch will be carrying far more than that. More than likely the switch is shorting internally to its casing.

I don't see how you could install it incorrectly to cause that problem, put a multimeter on it, between the green(unplugged) and the case, it should show infinity on all scales.

was it a decent new switch ?
I had a similar thing with a new Indian switch, but it was the light power shorting to the switch housing, and so to earth...
less painful, but still meant a new switch was the best plan

ouch! check it as firekdp says and get a refund if it fails.
is it safe if the green from the ignition is not plugged into the bulb holder ?
scary thing to check perhaps
has the [often pink] earth wire got a ring spade to secure under a bolt, or a bullet to fit in the bulb holder ? is this shorting on the green anywhere ?
do
any of the wires connect with the casing ?
and could they be shorting out with the green wire from the CDI ?
I'd be inclined to try another switch, once they start misbehaving they can often get worse quite quickly

It does sound like the cut out side of the Ignition has somehow found its way to earth through you... Ouch!!! :shocking:
