new build everything was fine exept twice now on starting it has wanted to go backwards!
thought static timing must be way out but just strobed it and it's dead on.
any pointers/ similar experience. running a scooters restoration 12v kit by the way which i have always found decent.
any advice welcomed.

Hi this is what happened to me years ago it was when i owned Dave Websters own 240 put it in to gear and it started to go backwards so i phoned him up and
he told me what it was. Not a problem it is when you start the bike normally, the motor is just about to stall and stop but you give it some throttle and it makes the flywheel bounce backwards the only thing to do is turn off and start again (but it is funny to see your bike go backwards) hope this helps also there
may be other reasons?
I have never had or seen a Lambretta go backwards in all 4 gears but many years ago I had a phone call from a friend who was doing a Vespa 150 Super up for someone who lived around the corner from me, all he said was come on round I have something to show you. When I arrived he told me to start the scooter up and try and ride it, so I started the scooter with little effort and put it into 1st gear when I let the clutch out very carefully, expecting something to happen but not what came next, the newly built engine dragged myself and the Vespa frame backwards.
To say I was confused was an understatement, my friend then demonstrated the full extent of the comic genius and continued to test ride the scooter backwards up and down the road using all 4 gears, albeit very carefully, which was met with large amounts of laughter from all of us present. The engine had been built by a local dealer with the stator plate so far out it made the scooter drive backwards.
Happy days and thanks to our local scooter dealer for an very funny evenings entertainment.
yeah i was sure i was not the first. still quite alarming when the lights turned green and i proceeded to reverse into a black cab!
once again strobed the flywheel and it's dead on. the bouncing flywheel at near stall seems to make sense then?
