Thread is knackered. Any ideas on how to remove the stud? Thread is knackered. (Apart from welding a nut on).

I think I know the one you mean. I'm not sure there's enough space.

Could you show a pic? If it is what I immagine and the thread is busted and you are going to cut it anyway, I could only think of two options (but remember that i am a ham-fisted moderfuker.

1-Get a dremmel and cut a / in the middle of the stud, very very thin but deep cut, then, with a thin but wide screwdriver, pull the stud out.

2-If you are desperate, try edging two sides of the stud, so you can grip an adjustable wrench in there, and wrench it out.

Again, ham-fisted (I like this expression) solutions but I think the bodges will get to your objectives.

With compliments,

J.

How strange is that, I was using my dremmel for something completely different for the first time in about 2 years. I'll give that a go, thanks.

Well that didn't work. My immitation dremmel didn't immitate enough and it could hardly mark the stud, let alone cut it. :(

Our local toolspecialist supplies re-inforced cut off discs (Dremel Make) for this kind of job, perhaps yours might do the same?

is the thread on the stud knackered or the threads in the case knackered,if the foremost the you will need to weld on a nut and heat the casing up(be careful not to melt it),if the latter then you have a couple of options depending on your facilities, helicoil old thread back to origional size,or cut out the case and weld up and tap back to origional size.
