Speedo Drive replacement

Hi,

Help a newbie. I need to replace the speedo drive on an outboard hydraulic disc brake. How do I do it?? To get at it, is it possible to remove the disc and caliper in one go or do I need to remove the caliper and disc seperately. The history of this is the speedo stopped working. It fine from the headset end and when I turn cable manually it works. But when I connect everything up it wont work.The worm drive is metal and I'm guessing the speedo drive is nylon. I am gonna replace both with nylon ones as I don't think metal speedo drives are available. Would really appreciate any help.

Bought from Cam Lam. SPAQ is printed on the disc link bracket.

you might just find cutting the outer back (a few mm at a time) works i know it was working before but worth a try

I don't understand. Cut what. The outer what. Do you mean the worm drive. If so , it's metal.

the cable that feeds in when you pull the cable out its in 2 parts the outer is black or grey the inner is metal and has a square end , try packing the stand up so the wheel is of the ground, then remove the headset top and disconnect the speedo then rotate the wheel and see if you can move the inner in and out abit and see if the inner is rotating

Ah, now I see what your saying. Sorry. Will try that.

I put a matchstick in the speedo drive(with the cable disconnected) then spin the wheel and the match should rotate

When I turn the wheel by hand pushing against the worm with my finger the worm turns. It's when I put it all back together it doesn't work.

Probably a flat spot on the cable drive, its held in by the part that your cable connects to on the hub. un screw it with a spanner and you should be able to get it out to have a look.
