I spoke with Casa Lambretta UK/Scootopia today and asked if they had managed to get round to fitting one of the above kits.....they had and experienced the same problems with the rattling as I had done.
They contacted Vittorio and ... guess what .. he knew about it but not told anyone it seems?
They explained thet there is a mismatch between piston (Asso) and barrel (Gilardini?) in that the area above and including the rings is slightly too narrow (the taper on the piston has been machined incorrectly) so that you measure clearance at the bottom of the piston which is fine, but you assume that the top of the piston is manufactured correctly, thus causing the tinkley rattle......well that's what I understood it was.
In any event the arguement is now between Asso and Gilardini? as to who got the specs wrong. Eventually though Asso are going to have to revise the piston and Casa will supply a replacement when it's all sorted out (The Italians have just closed down for hols for a month)
But we are assured that the kit will not be damaged as a result (fingers and other appendages crossed) and can be used as normal if you just ignore the rattling.
Apart from the s**t R & D that was done anyone like to make a comment?
Casa Lambretta 210 Road Kit.......Update
Yes .... Run it hot it might expand your piston enough to keep it quiet...
Nice to see you got a good outcome, and thanks for the update..!!

That's what I was thinking. So, if the fe**ing weather stays dry for a few hours will take it for a long run

NO IT'S NOT A F***IN* MOPED!!!!!!
Assuming that you would like to have a nice straight barrel with no taper then surely the problem lies with Asso piston.
Best Regards

I have had several 190 conversion pistons of unknown manufacture that did the same thing. Bored 'em to 3 thou, measured for the widest part(bottom) and they rattled like a rattlesnake.
One motor that was built, did a 400 mile run WOT(his dog was dying) from New York to Richmond with no problems. A couples of days later, here in town, doing 45 with a cop behind him, the skirt cut loose, nearly dropping him in front of the cop. Not good.
They seem to be alright when thrashing 'em, but at slow speeds, all that slapping about has got to weaken the skirt.
Different piston I know, but same scenario.

That's not going anywhere...

Thanks for the input, but as I understand it, the area of the piston which this is about and, appears to vibrate, is at the top(crown) and as the piston is new (120miles) surely it would be the top of the piston that vibrates more than the skirt? I could understand your thoughts on this if the piston was worn but it's not.

Send it back for a full refund and buy something else. R&D my arse, you're doing it for them and these kits ain't cheap. I realy am on the brink of giving up with all the crap that we have to deal with at our expense. People (dealers and manufacturers) are liable and should be made to pay for their mistakes. Get a cheap cylinder and spend your money with a tuner to get what you want cast iron or ally nicasil. Rant over
