Just bought a new stand spring, but tell me is there a way of resolving the issue of slackness when the stand is up & one is riding?
I've got about 3 inches of play & it slams about the place somewhat.

Shocky is right about poor quality stand springs.
But a stand that has been used for sitting on the scooter with the stand down can cause the stand bolts to pull through a little and the stand can Also bend alittle causing slack even with a good spring fitted.
There are reinforcing plates Available to put against the out rigger where the stand bolts, which will help but if the outrigger is bent then the stand will never be perfect and if the stand is bent that won't help.

Another suggestion:- Could also be the 'hooks' being well worn/bent if the stand has a lot of free play in the up position.

I've just discovered this problem on a new stand that I fitted up. With mine the problem is the spring mount that's welded on the stand. If you compare it with an original stand, it's welded about 10mm too high, so the stand flaps around when you're riding.
Typical

Why I never thought of this, when I had to cut one off and reposition it on my SX stand not long ago...

... Good point Storkfoot...

Yeah, my slightly battered original stand is now going to the painters next week______silly me for thinking you couldn't possibly manufacture something that far out, and it wasn't even one of the stainless ones that all seem to be made wrong.
How many times do we come to the conclusion that original stuff is the only stuff that fits
Always makes me smile when I see "shiny" restos were people ditch cowlings and rear mudguards that would paint or powder coat really well, and then replace it with razor sharp shiny stuff that never fits

Where did you get the one that fits from? It would save me a bit of grief if I had one that took up the slack. As long as it's not shiney, mind
