Have just got an NK mild steel exhaust and on my previous stainless one I have an egt meter, the receiving probe end i got tig welded as I only have a 135 amp mig. Problem is he accidently welded the receiver in pic in jaws of caliper, this didnt matter, got a spare and it was stainless anyway.

But now i have mild steel i can do it with my mig, obviously cant use the tapered receiver as its stainless, i was told zinc coated hex nut would be ok as they are steel underneath. Trouble is, the taper starts at 8mm and tapers to 10mm and i only have one odd thin nut that is 8mm with the right pitch, but it looks very thin to weld 1.5 mm in places and only allows fittment at the bottom. I have lots of different sized nuts but all the pitches are too big being standard m8, m10.

I think i want to go at least half way up with the receiving part that allows the sender probe into the exhaust.

Anyone know what M? sized nut with what pictch would work best? I think the m8 in pic will distort with my level of welding experience. the other nut is ok put pitch is wide. Any ideas?
