How do I know if....

How do I know if I've got a series 1 barrel or sereis 3 barrel on my scoot? The crank was replaced about 10 y ago, but I don't know with what

I suppose the easiest answer is that the SIII barrels, particularly the late ones, have noticably bigger transfers entering the top of the barrel. However, if you don't have two barrels to compare, this maybe difficult to gauge.

The SI barrel used a piston with a lower compression height (the distance from the gudgeon pin to the crown). Therefore, the SI barrel is shorter, and an SIII barrel should, from memory, be 101mm from top gasket face to bottom gasket face.

I hope that my reply "bumps" this thread to the top of the pile where you can get a better answer.

count the fins below ex port..............
series one has 3 fins
series three have 4 fins
