I stripped my top end down today following problems on the way to darlo yesterday, for the second time in a week the rings have snagged on the exhaust port and buggered the piston and scored the barrel.
I don't know if the scores are too deep to rebore past, my initial thoughts were - rebore and racetour piston ( £140.00 for the piston alone ) which will cost more than a new kit which are £185.00 .
I guess i need someone to look at the barrel first to assess if it's useable.
Does anyone have any reccomendations as to someone that I could trust to carry out a rebore a to the correct size for the new piston?
Any other ideas?
Knackered Rapido - what are my options?
there is obviously some fault with the barrel or piston type id take it somewere other than were you bought it and get it inspected then armed with thae info take it back to were it came from explain the problem and back it up with the relivent info also give them a copy in writing of the problem and await there respone give them a time limit for this again in writing ,be nice polite and calm telling them what you want done about the problem if there is one ,if you get no joy contact trading standards for your redress, also do other scooterists a favour and tell us the shops reply wether its postive or negative cheers steve

thing is shocky, like most motorcross shops etc... no garaurntees on a tuned motor, and as the dealer in question, AF rayspeed do these kits, hasnt supplied the replacement piston, or set the scooter up, i"m afraid he wont have much comeback. if you bought a set of pistons from , say , a vauxhall garage for your astra, and didnt get them to fit them, then it went bang, what do you think they would say? not judging your engine building prowess Dazza.. but running in on th A1.....????? is it a 225? you"ll have a couple of oversizes left. if a 200, loadsa opportunities. race tour piston, suzuki TS250 piston on an APE conrod, clean your ports up and put a proper ASSO piston in. loads really... dont worry man. just get it measured up properly and dont just stick another piston in. Rapidos are good kits when fettled properly, and i know of a good few that really FLY!!........... dont get dis-heartened daz. but get it measuered up, and sorted.

Yeah , with hindsight the A1 was a bad idea
I dont plan on seeking compensation for the pistons - although both failed in the same place - around the exhaust port area, both were Escorts pistons and both were from AF so I may just phone them to let them know.
I think I am going to nip over to MB ,let them have a look at the barrel, if they reckon they can clean it up, I'll go for the racetour option and run it in gently
