I've just had my engine totaly re-built with mugello 186 kit, race crank etc, thinking of maybe changing the flywheel to a lightened one ! whats the pro's and cons of using a lightened flywheel ? is it best to get an AF one or get my one lightened !!! also will there be any change to the timing ?

New timing marks will have to be put on if you change the flywheel...
The AF lightened flywheel is fairly light and lacks a little inertia of the Indian lightened flywheel.... This sometimes leads to an inconsistant tickover unless the tickover is raised a little.... but this depends a little on engine setup... My TS1 ticks over smoothly at 1400 rpm, which is pretty low... But my old Rapido 200 race neede the tickover at around 1600 rpm or it would stall...

I think the lighter the flywheel that you can use the better, as it lowers the stresses on the crankshaft, and usually the mid range performance is increased...
But if your engine lacks bottom end torque, then the Indian lightened flywheel might be your best bet...

If you have a SIL one on have it lightened to approx 2 kg, helps with torque if its heavy, best of both worlds if its lightened :D, the AF light ones dont have the enersia [spelling  ] to have a low tickover, pro,s, they rev very freely from tickover but sound like a MXer, IMO. My RBs just ripped the centre boss out of my indian flywheel so replaced with a lightened indian jobby.
