When I fitted my gear cables on my Series 2, I did it with the gearbox in neutral. I was told recently that it's better to do it with the gearbox in 4th, but I couldn't really understand the logic in that.

Is there any logic, or doesn't it matter?

Think its something to do with you can sometimes find a false neutral between 2nd and 3rd
