Quick question,
The new BGM Pro Competition Front Dampers, they advertise both compression & rebound, does this mean that if desired and set up correctly you can effectively run them without any springs ?

No.
Dampers are simply devices to control the suspension springs. In the case of Lambrettas they influence principally the rate of rebound with some small effect upon compression. They are essential IMHO. I doubt the BGM dampers have completely independent means of controlling rebound separately to compression, or vice versa. Compression rate will simply be a factor of rebound rate. I'd love to see a real World test comparing OEM dampers with aftermarket dampers. OEM would take some beating IMO.
Fitted alone, the forks would simply bottom out & there would be no suspension.
