GP Clutch Plunger

For some reason at the base of the clutch shaft (sidecasing) my GP (bog standard Italian 150) has a circlip below the plunger yet the original parts manual shows none & i hear there shouldn't be one as the brass bush/plunger holds it in place in the sidecasing.

Any thoughts on this?

I had been having problems with the upper chain guide wearing at the edge (on my third one now) & a few pulling problems at top end now & again, does anyone think that this may have added to these problems (everything else fine & runs sound).

Just some confirmation on the circlip before i put her back together.

Thanks, yes the first illustration is completely misleading, the second one originates from the original GP/DL parts catalogue (I've got a copy I dug out) & this is correct:

In the casing a washer goes up the top of the shaft then the 'E' clip (that is shown as the last bottom fitting to go on the shaft), then the plunger which sits & stays in place without a bottom circlip.
