MOT ofter SORN ??

My current project ( 1963 TV ) is SORN at the moment ...Do I need to get an MOT before it gets its first tax ???
Does that make sense , I did google it ....

Hi

If the scooter is on a sorn it's officially off the road, so you don't need a valid mot. Plus the fact it doesn't need an mot once it's over 40 years old.

No , I know that , what I mean is , once I’m ready to put it back on the road , will I just need to tax it ?
It’s last tax disc was about 3 years ago before I bought it .

Ah right

You will need a valid Mot to tax it through the Dvla.gov/tax website I'm afraid. As long as you are insured you can legally drive to the test centre once you decide to get it back on the road.

Ha yes , that’s what I wondered . It doesn’t make sense that you could just put any historic vehicle back on the road without any form of inspection.

If its on a sorn...does that mean its Uk registered with a valid V5C.
Can you not just apply to the DVLA for historic tax and mot exemption.
Then tax it at a postoffice or online with the registration document without an MOT.
If its UK registered why would it need inspecting?

No, it does not need an MOT at all. I registered a '63 TV this year and it did not need it, I did have to sorn it later when I received a notice from a data company, because I hadn't insured it.

Surely if it's on Sorn it means it's on the books? You only need to tax it and declare it MOT exempt.

OK , its a UK registered scoot and always has been . I`ll get the answer when I apply for the Tax I suppose .
I just thought it might flag up since the historic vehicle MOT rule change ...doesnt really seem safe that you can do that .

If your vehicle is 'Historic' That means 40 years old (or more) It is exempt from the MOT system.
It doesn't matter where it has come from.
When applying for tax, you may be asked to make a MOT exemption declaration.
Simples.
