I noticed last night that the kick start pedal has a bit of sideways movement. I only noticed because the stop tab that rests on the underside of the crank case has scratched the paint off the exhaust and the pedal end has started to rub the paint on the side of the rear runner board. I checked the pinch bolt on the pedal and it is as tight as I dare take it. I don't want to snap the thing. Is a bit of play normal or is it more down to wear of the layshaft or pedal splines?

Take the bolt out and with a hacksaw make the slot3mm bigger to give you more of a nipup

Thanks Garry. I never thought of that.
