I use Duckham's semi-synthetic 2-stroke oil at present but have had so many differing opinions about which I should use, I thought I'd consult with the Scooterotica Oracle

Btw: I am using said oil at 4% and piston, barrel etc are liberally coated with oil. Down to 3%

I've been running my V1 muggy 186 for 5.5k miles now on both fully and semi synth all at 3%. In fact it's probably nearer 2.5% as I put 150ml in and usually get just over 6lts of fuel in. I use any make I can get locally, the last two lots have been from unheard of makers but the engine seems to like it.

I've also run my Mugello for a few years and over 7,000 miles without any probs but always 3% Castrol TT Fully Synthetic , 8,000 rpm in every gear ( rev counter fitted) . The one thing that I believe has made the difference as well as oil quality is the Ram air filter that stops all the tiny bits of grit that would get ''Hoovered'' into the engine to combine with the oil regardless of whether it be synthetic or the cheapest mineral stuff to form a very efficient grinding paste that would then set to work on every bearing,piston ring and seal that it came into contact with.

Those Mugello kits are certainly built to last if looked after properley!

It's for the Casa 210, which I understand is not high revving, more mid range 'grunt'. It's just that all the TS1/RB owners are telling me to only use fully synthetic 'don't risk damage to the lining, it's not worth it' is what I'm being told. And yes I do run through a filter, wouldn't have it any other way, I dont want the silicates dust on the road making a nice paste in MY engine

Castrol TTS 4%, imola kit done 7000 miles

When I first fitted the kit I was using putoline @ 4% I had a dyno done and the crank (af race) went (500 miles on it as well ) When I sent it to Rayspeed and had it repaired, they didn't recomend putoline and to increase to 4%. So I switched to Castrol and no problems since and still going strong....which is nice

runs on Rock Oil Synthetic at 3%

Absolutely no problems for the last 3 years

(I have run semi synth for a while as well- no difference!!)

I always use semi synthetic because I believe it does increase engine life especially the crank.
Saying that with your set up I think a good quality semi synthetic will be more than adequate.

Do you mean fully synthetic Al

Imola 186, Rock Oil at 3%, 2500 miles in 2 months without a complaint.. not saying it wouldn't be ok on semi but why risk it?
