Riding home at 60mph, slowed down to take turn off dual carriageway and looked behind me and thought scooter on fire. When stopped and looked down again see the orange sparks but still managed to ride the further 3 miles home ok. Any ideas what it might be ? Not had that before

What pipe are you using?
We're you thrashing it prior to the sparks coming out the back?
If it s a pipe with a lagged end can [like old frescos] then it might be the lagging burning out. This usually occurs when the engine is really hot, or the lagging is old and giving up.
Worse case scenario is your scooter is running lean AND you were thrashing it, in which case you're probably heading for something horrible.
Check the plug looks good [brown] and check your end can for burnt out lagging.
If its a box type pipe [standard] then it might be oiled up, and thrashed and its burning out some of the coke/oil in which case no big deal. It does sound like you were thrashing it though...good man :0)

Possibly the internal baffles and silencing materials of the BGM pipe disintegrating and burning up. Like most BGM stuff they are quite poorly made. They are not made to the spec of their designer. Many corners were cut. Mr Cross will tell you the story. I followed Dan through a tunnel in the Italian Alps as sparks flew out of his exhaust just before his carb came off.
