Chaincase removal!

Afternoon all!
Decided to replace the clutch plates on my LIS 150 . (first time I have attempted this!) Taken everything off that needs to come off, split case, but no way can I get it past the footboard supporting leg ( I have taken off the L shaped bit at the bottomj). Is there a trick or knack to this that I am unaware of, or is it possible that at some time the leg has been bent inwards towards the engine, and is too close? Scoot is unrestored.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Martin
