Funny noise then kickstart locked - then went ok???

Just having a spin on the scooter - doing about 70 - heard a weird noise so pulled over - couldn't see anything wrong so went to go - kickstart locked solid - put it into gear and moved her back and forth - could feel piston move but kickstart still locked solid - a few minutes later tried ti kick her again and she kicked over and rode home perfect, like nothing happened, no lose of power or anything. Got home and I can definitely hear a knocking sound coming from flywheel area on tickover.
Any thoughts???

Very possible that a stator bolt or something has come undone and is catching in the flywheel. DO NOT try to start it again or you risk destroying the stator....I speak from experience
Best get the flywheel off and have a look.

First thing I took off - nothing untoward there

When you took the flywheel off,did you make sure there were no metal objects attached to the magnets.

kick start spring snapped or pin has come loose in kickstart piston
