Welding old style crownwheel with springs?

Hi, I have a few of the early s3 crownwheel that are 2 pieces with springs, with zero wear on them. Before binning them, I'm wondering if anyone has tried welding them and how it worked out.

Would be interested as I have the same. However I would be inclined to leave it as is if all looks good. Yes it will fail in the future but until then .......

Well, if it was in a 150 engine, but everything I have is tuned. My neighbor is a master welder. I'm going to show it to him this weekend and see what he thinks. Part of the problem is I don't know how much force is on the part, what the composition of the steel is etc.. he will ask for all of this.
I suspect the reason no one experiments with this is if it fails you could damage your engine or worse.

Tuned is a different issue, mine is on a bog standard .
