Stator breakdown???

Just got my scooter set up properly, new build with everything brand new - apart from the Varitronic ignition which is about 4 years old - i had it on the dyno a few weeks ago and it has been running spotless - until yesterday. Thrashing around through the gears is great but if I hit top revs, and in particular going up an incline, it starts to stutter - not like rich but just running crap.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks!

what have you set the ignition at say23 retarding to17 it depends were its retarded to at a certain rev range especially with that kit you might be at 20dg at7000rpm instead of17

Not sure mate, I think 23 - it was checked by Chiselspeed a few weeks ago when they set it up on the dyno. It has been running perfect though so it must have been right. Might nip out and check stator hasn't moved.

Maybe check the resistance of the LT coil and pick up. Not too sure on what the readings should be but i presume they'll be different to a "standard" stator. CamLam will have the correct readings (if you can get in touch with them) or someone on here may post them.

Thinking outside the box.....a break in the flywheel magnets may give the symptoms you described or what about the red petals being damaged ?

Yeah, I have one of those inline fuel filters - that might be getting restricted now that it's been on a while. Have ordered a bit of fuel hose to replace it - see if that helps - it will certainly eliminate it if that is the cause.

All good - can't see anything obvious.
