Keep seeing adds on Facebook,Ebay and other sites for scoots registered as 125 but 225 engine, you do know we are not the only people looking on these sites (DVLA and VOSA) this could bite you on the arse and plus it's not legal, cant you just put 125+ or 125?.

If I buy a Lambretta Li125 and restore it. I register it as a Li125, because that's what it is. If the engine is stamped 125, that's what I register it as.
When no road tax is due, it makes no difference to the DVLA.
However, I ALWAYS tell my insurer of any and all modifications including up-kitting.

The DVLA and VOSA have nothing to gain by reporting each and every case, even if they win they wont get a penny...................I think they've got better things to do with there meager resourses.

I gather that the real issue is if you have an accident - I'm sure insurance companies will do whatever they can to prevent paying out - including having your engine inspected.

I always tell my insurance company my engine size, irrespective of what it says on the log book.

But are people buying 125’s because they haven’t passed their test?

No other reason to buy one if you've passed your test there's no way you'd want to be on a 125.Passing your test would prevent all this but doing so is so costly these days It's an easier option to buy a ts1 reg as a 125 as in reality who is going to roadside check you.I haven't been stopped in years on any scoot be it my P2,DR166 or any of my lammy 230's any plod nowadays wouldn't have a clue so why actually bother passing the test in any case.

Cost me just under £300 to pass my test, saved more than that by not having to do CBTs, insurance, etc. since. I just don't buy that it's cheaper to keep doing CBTs than to pass your test.
