Hello,

Working on a series 2 here and looking for a bit of advice on the strut alignment. There's a few pictures below where I hope you can see that the gap between footboard and panel is large, and on the 3rd picture perhaps that the footboard needs to come out (i.e. the strut is bent in).

Is it just a case of bending out the support strut with a large lever or something similar? I've put a straight edge from front-to rear as per Stickys book and it's nothing like level.

The middle strut is perhaps also a bit low & has had some repair work in the past (but not a full replacement as far as I can tell). I was thinking of getting the rear one about right, then looking at the middle, & then putting the leggies on to make sure everything lines up, does that sound like a reasonable approach?

The frame tube itself seems good based upon measurements & comparison to another S2 frame I have.

I had this problem on my series 2. It was caused by bottom of the strut being badly welded in its past after it had broken off. I built temp jig from wood lined everything up and re welded the strut were it needed to be.

That side always seems a bad fit,I have a series 2 and thats a bad fit,not quite as bad as yours,but a bad fit none the less.I have put packers under the floorboard were it fastens on the strut.

Had another look last night at the top of the strut and maybe it's been reattatched (Nice welding) or just bent, hard to be sure. For certain the strengthening web underneath is curved rather than straight.

I think it's close enough for a bit of bending to put it right so looking for something hefty to use as a lever.

If I were you I'd do as I've done and try the packers,to lift the rear floorboard up to just below the bottom of the panel (I used 2 frame rubbers and a washer)If it isn't to your liking you've lost nothing by not bending the strut.

Some heat and a lever using a large bit of old steel drainpipe & it's now much better:
