Innocenti Squish

I try and follow the 1.0-1.5 recommendation but on a recent rebuilt I ended up with 2.0. This was a little annoying as I did a dry build and thought I got close to 1.5. Anyway, the scooter runs very well but only running in. I’ve got a standard TV175 S3 that runs incredible well and that factory squish is over 2.
Over the years, I appreciate more Innocenti engineering as they seemed to get so many things right such a long time ago. Why did they set such a high squish? Must be some advantages.

1) available petrol was better back in the 1960's
2) tolerances on engine builds?

TBH back in the day nobody had heard of "squish" and rebuilds didn't take it into any account.
