i'm looking into upgrading the lighting and charging system on my stock 64 Li 150S .

Most of the threads and websites I've looked at are now very out of date and frankly there is so much out there that it is bewildering.

What is the current practice in upgrading the electrics without being too radical so it can be reversed to maintain originality. ?

I thought about adding a battery and 5 pin rectifier but as I never ride in the dark is it really worth doing ? .....saying that it might be useful to be able to add Satnav and 5v/12v DC power outputs so that I could power other stuff ....

12v AC conversion looks to be a very useful upgrade and I could easily convert a spare stator . What coils and bulbs are the best to use stock lambretta or PX200 vespa ?

Has anyone tried converting to a 3 phase PMA (permanent magnet alternator )?

Your post is a little confusing as you say you don't ride in the dark and want to keep it 'reversible' and then mention 3 phase

If you want to be able to charge a satnav, you will need to convert to 12 volts. It is possible to convert a 6 volt stator to give 12 volts and retain the points but it is easier to convert to electronic ignition using one of the kits available from such as Scooter Restorations. You will need one with the slim Li type taper flywheel. To get you 12volt DC, there's a guy on Face Book called Anthony Tambs (Scootronics) who sells an 'Inteliconverter' that provides a stable charge for phones/satnavs.

The above will allow you to use a 35watt halogen headlamp which will probably be ok if you really aren't fussed about riding in the dark although you can go up to 55watts if you replace the rear lamp with an LED item.

There are a couple of 3phase kits which will give you around 180 watts but I would suggest that the loom would need a fair bit of upgrading if you wanted to use that much power.

I think I saw an Li electronic flywheel somewhere for about £50 which isn't too bad so thats definitely a possibility
I have a couple of 12v Stators one is a Vespa I was thinking of transferring the coils onto a Lambretta 6v stator and configuring it for 12v AC as per CamLams guide
I do have a Lambretta Electronic ignition stator but unfortunately it has a broken fixing tag but I guess I could transfer the lot onto a spare 6v Li Stator backplate .

A SatNav would be useful occasionally I suppose but Its going to be very expensive to convert the ignition and charging systems just for a rectified 12v DC for a SatNav. Maybe it would make more sense to use either a cellfone satnav App or a battery powered TomTom Satnav .

I think I'll strip a 6 pole 6v S3 stator and transfer the coils from the Vespa 12v electronic stator and configure them for 12v AC .
Upgrade the bulbs as you suggest to 35W Halogen front and an LED rear for the very occasional use its likely to get .
I might treat the flywheel to a remagnetizing whilst I'm at it.

re 3x phase I have a PMA Alternator on my bike and as its uses permanent magnets it needs no electrical supply to generate a field so i thought that would be a good solution . i assumed that smeones tried it at some point in the past 50= years but can't find a mention of it anywhere
