and then me balls fell out

Oh woe is me ...thrice woe . :(
For I have committed the cardinal sin of '...if it ain't broke don't f**k with it '

Fitting the gear selector fork and shaft and adjusting the end float etc I carefully operated the gear shift arm for the umpteenth time to check everything was working smoothly after shimming the shaft and...........

Yep you guessed it ....I pushed the selector arm a bit too far and into reverse gear and me balls flew out :o

I just cannot face removing the layshaft and reinstalling it again so I'm prepared to listen to any hair-brained scheme however ridiculous that might enable me to put me balls back in ....with the layshaft installed in the case. :D

get someone to push it on while you hold the two balls and spring in place with two small flat screwdrivers you must have a frend or wife

thanks garry.
it sounds easy but I just can't get my fingers down their and there is no way you could get 2x screwdrivers down there inside the case.

I've filed a slight ramp to the cursor but its clearly not enough. I think the answer is to grind a big chamfer to the cursor so it will squeeze the balls in as I press down on the cursor otherwise I'm going to have to remove the layshaft and refit it .
'
What a idiot am i !

Saying that you've given me an idea. I might be able to fit a jubilee clip around the layshaft over the balls and squeeze that in . Then if I bang the cursor onto the layshaft it should dislodge the jubilee clip leaving the balls in place . ;)

Haha, no and no but luckily I've always had strong hands and have never had difficulty squeezing the balls in, tiz a bitch though I once lost one on a very small and clean garage floor and spent what must have been a couple of hours on my hands and knees but never did find the bugger.

The jubilee clip should do it, it's the way I fit mine albeit with the shaft out. I slide the jubilee clip up tom the cursor and then slip a small screw driver blade in between the clip and the ball to depress them and push on the cursor. Should slid over easily 8-)

I've done it on my own, screwdriver each hand holding the balls in place and nutted (head butted)the sliding dug into place.

Edit ; was obviously out the engine t the time!
