Steering Lock Help!

Found an old padlock key last night which just happened to fit the steering lock on my 65 LIS 150 (original key was not with bike when I bought it back in April). Tried in several times in the garage and seemed perfect. Went out for a run this morning and throttle cable broke 3 miles from home. Phoned son to get me back home for new cable and decided to lock steering til I got back. Don't know what, but something made me check to make sure it would unlock, and guess what, yep, would not move. Tried various other keys, not Lambretta ones, but to no avail Ended up having to ring AA to get me home!
As I see it my options are:
1. Try and get hold of a Cama key number 337, to see if that will work. (If anyone has a spare they would be willing to sell me, that would be great, or if not sell, lend me, I will gladly pay postage and add beer tokens!) I would order one from Jem Booth, but I read on here recently that he has not been answering emails!
2. Remove headset and old lock and replace with new (don't really want to go down this route if I can avoid it!)
3. Hope one of you guys has knows of an easy way of unlocking!
Anyl help/advice will be really appreciated.
Cheers
Martin

it would appear that the odd key was OK to lock but not unlock......

you have 2 options (well 3 actually but..):-

1) get hold of the correct key and hope its OK
2) remove the headset top and take out the whole lock (not a hard job) or....

3) you can force the lock and break it (and risk damaging the housing) by yanking the headset round- the normal method for stealing Lambrettas in the 1960's....apparently.

Someone must be able to lend you CAMA 337 on here (How do you know its CAMA??)

Chris

P.S. I've got CAMA 338 but I'm sure it won't fit. Have you tried inserting the rogue key and try to turn it as you jiggle it up and down rapidly??

Hi Chris, thanks for reply.
I did try the padlock key last night, locking and unlocking at least a dozen times, all with relative ease! Tried the 'jiggling' thing several times today, but no luck!
Hoping someone out there can lend me a key, but if not, it looks like headset off.Top already off, but guess bottom has to come off to access steering lock?
According to Sticky's book, key should be a Cama for my bike year and model!

Cheers
Martin

Only the top has to come off, theres a small screw that secures the lock in, just under the gear pulley, undo this and put the key in the lock and you should be able to pull the lock out

Seen that, but thought pulley would have to come off to access it! Will give it a go if no key is forthcoming!

will he need to push out the alloy cover on top of the lock as well to release the mechanism?

Yes i s**t you not, you just need to think outside the box. Think about it, the key is the same profile with the same number, it will fit trust me and it will only cost you a couple of quid.
