Is it necessary for the head cowling to be on, my thinking is I've had alsorts of bikes over the years not one had a head cowling for cooling purposes, so is it just for ethics

Hi daz yes you need it on for cooling as the flywheel spins and generates air flow it pushes it round into the head cowling to cool it that's why both cowling are very close to force the air round

You will also see that the lambretta cylinder has a very small fin area compared with non forced air cooled bikes. Also the fins run in the wrong direction.
