Can someone kindly take a pic of the hub splines from inside the rear hub...

I think mine are trashed but it's so universal it looks machined.

am I missing something, the splines are parallel to each other so should be the same width on the inside as they are on the outside, all the worn hubs I have seen have had a step normally back from the front hub face as the lay shaft stops short. If I have misunderstood please forgive me as I know nowt

If the hub has been loose the splines of the layshaft will eat into the hub splines, usually on the drive side. This will erode the spline and make them thinner until they give way and you loose drive. Once the splines have started to wear or show signs of it it's best to replace the hub.

I think you have the right of it.

I've a hub in my workshop which had the wrong cone fitted and it has the step in the splines that you described caused by the hub slopping around on the layshaft.

Mine has a step but looks machined hence the question. No real wear on the shaft.

Will have a look when cone etc is on.

Are the UNI hubs any good or is it better to go for a scootopia or Italian one?

UNI are decent hubs
