Brake shoe dust

I fitted a pair of new shoes to rear . Seems to kick out excessive amount of dust . Heavy layer of dust showing around hub area and rims. Is this normal for some brands of shoes ? Rear brakes work, but not great, never has been. No stopping power from rear alone, without the help of front brake use.
Thanks.

never had a problem with excessive dust- what make are they?

Generally the old asbestos brakes work very well with little dust- if it IS asbestos then be very careful.

Scootopia own brand. Don't say asbestos ! I was under the impression it is banned on new shoes, nowadays. Been brushing, wiping it off.

Before we all panic are you sure it's brake dust? I'm forever getting dust on my rear wheel, and if indeed it was brake dust I'd probably have been down to the bare metal long ago. I think I would have noticed. It's not just the rear wheel either, everything under the panels gets it to a degree. The fact is Lambretta's are like little vacuum cleaners, and I'm inclined to think that a lot of it is road dirt.

From nice shiny new restoration. Ten miles to mot station. On the ramp it was mentioned about the amount of dust from inspector . Rims gone from white to grey.

Mine get like that every time I go out. I'm forever wiping them clean. If you're in any doubt there's only one way to be sure and that is to whip off the hub and check for excessive wear.
