Started early building a new motor on an new SIL casing (from SR)

Went to fit the gear change shaft and it won't go all the way in. Tried a GP type and the old Li type both with the same result. Ends up about 15 mm out of the casing. Seems like the hole at the bottom is either too tight or not deep enough. Giving it a tap with the hammer and it sounds fairly solid.

I checked a small block case under the bench and it is the same and no issue with tightness in that shaft

So it must be something like that. Managed to get it all the way down with a couple of sharp smacks with the copper hammer, but it was very tight.

Got some grinding paste on it and have spent an hour working it back and forward before it was as free as I'd like.

Now rained off for the day.
