I noticed a bit of a leak around the exhaust body to manifold area where it is held by a jubilee clip. I had coated the joint with copper grease for fitment ease. Years ago I remember using an exhaust cement paste which would dry solid but a bugger to remove exhaust and clean off when refitting if I remember right. Is there a better product to use nowadays to help with the seal. Cheers

If you use a proper clamp intead of a Jubilee clip,it might seal better.

i agree, high temp silicone sealant is the way to go, its made for the job.

Thanks. I've bought a tube of wellseal for cylinder head. I can see that lasting me a lifetime . Never used it before. Would it be any good on the exhaust joint ?

Forget that idea ! Just used the wellseal on the head cylinder. Much too thin for exhaust.

You want silicone sealant on that that's what you want, I've always used the clear or white stuff plummers use without any issues, you can get the "no nonesence " stuff from screwfix for a few quid.

Wellseal won't fill the gap you have there Boss. And proprietary exhaust paste will dry rock hard and eventually crack plus you'll have the Devils oun job to get it off should you need to sepperate the joint.

Permatex 81878 Ultra Copper, or Loctite 5920. I also use these for almost every under-pressure gasket on the engine. Get some gloves on, and add a bead of sealant to the gasket faces, then run your fingers over the gasket and smooth it all out leaving a nice goldilocks (not too thin, not too thick) covering over the entire gasket.

The trick is to let it cure for 24 hours. Too often people assemble the engine, then want to start it right away. If the sealant is not cured it will not seal properly.

I've always used the copper gasket stuff from Halfords - I thinks it's Loctite - excellent stuff, does what it says on the tin! (or is that Ronseal? Don't use Ronseal - it doesn't work )
