ScootRS TV175 S3, trying to decide what it's worth

I know someone who imported one. It was very pretty but just never ran right. I know enough now that it was probably an air leak. After a few disappointed riding seasons he gave up and bought a triumph. I know it's still sitting in the back of his garage. I'm wondering if I should make him an offer for it.

My starting assumption is its just for parts, until I took it all apart and examined for welds, body filler, and replaced all the bearings and seals.

Does anyone have any direct experience working on ScootRS scooters and can comment on the quality or lack thereof the build?

Tx
David

Worth having if the engine is a full TV175. Scootrs seem the best of a bad bunch, you might be lucky. Maybe 2K might work?

I went to view one for sale. While back. Was a LI made to look like a GP 225!- weird!!! Lots of chrome bar work that had all turned to rust, although stored in a dry place. The owner was selling as when out riding the forks snapped at first bearing race. It was found they were about 90% rusted through, but he was told they were brand new forks! Understandably he had lost all faith in its safety. I didn't buy it...

Funny you should say that. I saw a picture of a crashed vietbodge bike, looked fine except the front wheel was off and the lower fork missing. I wondered what the f@@k happened.

And I was watching the news about a scooter driver that came off on a highway. Police were not allowing cameras as it was so gruesome. The rider was driven over twice.

These bikes are no joke. Image

I have no experiance of the scooters they used to sell, but I have bought lots of other stuff off them in the past.Unlike most Vietnamese companies ScootRS looked after their customers and also unlike most Vietnamese companies it was owned by an American.Unfortunately the company stopped trading for reasons which I'm not privy too,but their website is still available. http://WWW.scootrs.com

got to admit that IF I was thinking of getting a VC import, it would be a Scootrs one, and then only as a last resort.

Think about it logically, if you send, say £5000 halfway round the World and it a) doesn't turn up, or b) is crap, what realistically are you going to do? Take legal action in Vietnam??

Buy in UK where at least you can see what you are buying.

An update. I reached out to local clubs and found out it was indeed a ScootRS import. Not one of the early good ones. Owner loved it and would not listen to more experienced owners that told him it was crap.

Fork was rusted out at the lower bearing and snapped while riding. Rider not seriously hurt. It's being sold as parts.

In doing my research on this I found out that this past summer a kid in tge province of Quebec was killed while riding an Asian bodge. Was out. A highway when the welded fork snapped and he went off. Was run over by the car behind.

Was that for definite a ScootRS one? there were /are a lot of very dodgy Vietnamese imports but ScootRS were said to be a cut above the usual.

Yes, I saw all the paperwork. The guy selling it had it personally imported here, to Australia.
