Will clamping a tyre tight in a vice likely to damage the wall, when attempting to remove off a split rim. Tyres are new, but now thinking to respray rims. Thanks

Why do you need a vice? I just unbolted the rim and pulled the 2 pieces apart.

You were quite lucky, they often stick either with rust or paint. I use a workmate to break the bead on tubeless or tubed and not had nay problems. Another method is standing on the tyre with it laid flat and putting your weight on your heals.

Use a g clamp if you don't have a vice or work mate, I use that on enduro knobblies all the time .

They were tight to fit. I used some gel tyre lube to fit. Might have dried up creating glue effect. Will a vice damage the tyre wall ?

Pull the rims apart and put a socket over the 4 studs to hold the rim apart then clamp it in the vice or workmate. Start away from the valve as with new stiff sidewall tyres the valve is often hard up against the inside of the caseing, you can pull the tube out first to save nipping it.

I never had any luck removing tyres until i bought one of these. It works a treat, you can probably get it cheaper.

I wasn't robbed as I only paid 25 quid for mine, I just posted the first one I came across on eBay to illustrate my point. They're bloody great imo, makes splitting a rim really easy.
