Forgive a daft question from a newbie, but which way round should a throttle cable be fitted - with the fixed nipple at the headset end or the carb end??

Fixed nipple carb end, solderless nipple headset end. I use the Rayspeed solderless nipples as the Scootopia ones are the wrong diameter for the brass wheel.

There are 2 types of throttle cable.
If it's a standard carb then you need a large soldered nipple fitted at headset end and a solderless (screwed)
nipple fitted at carb end.

If you have a non standard carb then you fit the small soldered nipple at carb end and a solderless nipple at headset end.

If you have bought a cable with a small nipple soldered on one end and you have a standard carb, fit the.nipple at the carb end and just pinch the sides of the throttle arm tight and fit a solderless nIpple at headset end.

That's really helpful - thanks Chris. As far as I'm aware it is a standard carb and the soldered nipple is a small one, so the last of your points seems to bear out that mine has been fitted the wrong way round. When you say 'pinch the sides of the throttle arm tight' do you mean the lips of the brass wheel?

On the carb there should be little forked lever were cable nipple fits. Fit it with the cable in the inthe little slot then pinch the two sides together to close the slot to help stop cable coming out. If you have a little nipple onone end and larger on the other the larger fits in headset pulley wheel.

Yes of course, I was thinking of the PHBH carb I have just fitted. Two sizes of solderless nipple (as far as I'm aware) the small type I had from Scootopia for going on the carb end of a standard carb were the cable attaches to the lineage outside the carb, and the larger 5.5mm Rayspeed type for going headset end were a non standard carb is fitted on a "long" cable.

Cheers for guidance guys. From what you've said I think mine has been fitted wrong way round. What is the procedure to refit it correctly? Can I pull the cable through the outer sleeve from the headset end (where the soldered nipple currently is) and then rethread it through from the card end with the nipple at the carb end, without having to do any dismantling?

If the fixed nipple(barrel nipple)fits in the throttle wheel at the heaset end, then it should be left in place and the solderless nipple fitted at the carb end.

Just to add another complication, I wonder is a Gp throttle cable slightly shorter than an Li/Tv one? Mine was a nightmare to fit. The outer was just a bit short and the inner with the small nipple fitted to the standard carb, and the usual bigger nipple fitted to the handlebar was too long. No amount of adjusting could get it to work right. I cut the smaller nipple off, fitted the smallest screwed nipple I had, pinched the two sides of the slot on the carb together as mentioned by bazza3004 and it worked. Due to the slightly short outer my scooter revs up slightly when I turn the handlebars but its the best I could achieve.
