ducati rectifier the little black one on the n/s, i have no dc coming out of the red terminal where the red wire for the battery goes in, but i have 6.3 ac going in on the brown wire from the stator to the rectifier, i check both diodes the fine, lights very dim when on 3rd key position, and no charge to battery from rectifier, hi thanks can i use any other type , this is still 6 volt system by the way,is this is the type you mean ?

Hi Martin, I see you took my advice but I should mention it's concidered good form to introduce yourself in the Welcome section before posting your first question;)
Hopefully JIMS or Firekdp will be along to put you straight.

If you are using the 4 pole stator then the rectifier posted will not work properly, you need the type with the selenium plate rectifier. Although the 6 pole rectifier will not charge the battery it should have no effect on the main lights as it just acts as a junction box for the brown wires.
As the main light circuit is unregulated all lamps must be the correct voltage/wattage, fitting a 35/35W headlight say, will cause dimming as it will overload the stator causing the voltage to drop.
If all the lamps are correct test the circuit with the battery by plugging the brown loom wire into the grey output on the rectifier and switching the ignition to position 3 (you will not need to start it).

Oh, and don't earth the blue as this will cause a short and could de-magnetise your flywheel.

this is the one i have on the bike, iam have tested it but there seems to be nothing coming out off the red wire terminal to charge the battery , i have checked the fuse and tested the coil that seems fine, i have a good fluke 179 test meter,

If you have power going in but nothing coming out then it's probably the selenium rectifier pack at fault or a poor connection in there somewhere.

ok say the rectifier unit is knackered whats the alternative, but i want to keep the 6 volt system and update the rectifier unit , no change the flywheel stator etc thanks

It might be possible to replace the rectifier pack with a silicon diode.

JIMS that posted on here a few months back with pics of an S2 rectier he'd uprated with a silicon full wave rectifier. It's for use with the 12volt rewire on the stator but it points the way as to what's possible
