I've got a cracked case where the fly wheel side bearing sits. It was punched in too far, broke a circular piece out. I know it can be welded, and you have to be careful to allow the stator to fit properly. But I'm wondering as this is not structural, that it really just holds the oil seal in place, if it could be glued in place using an aerospace bonding agent. They make them what resist chemicals, withstands high heat etc. I'm just curious and wondering if someone more knowledgeable can enlighten me.

Thanks
David

Do you mean the circular part that the oilseal sits in ? If so I did the same on a T5 about 25 years ago. I bonded it back on using something like JB weld which is a type of epoxy metal. Devcon is about the same. Still holding today.

Bit of late reply but I`ve used `Araldite 2014` on a few vespa casings, excellent resistance against fuels, oils, heat, shock loads. Takes 24 hrs to cure but worth the wait.

Thanks for your replies. Its exactly what I was looking for. Yes, its the bit of metal that the oil seal sets up against, it is not load bearing. I've used JB Weld before, but was hoping someone else tried it and could speak to how it held up. I ended up going with a weld job, but next time will do an adhesive. But one thing I will do first is bake the part in the BBQ at about 350 for 12 hours first. Get all the oil out of the pores of the aluminum, so the glue can form a good bond. Of it I feel like divorce, I'll use the oven in the kitchen.
