Vespa small frame rear shock top mount

I am rebuilding a bare small frame. The rear shock has an M9 stud out of the top. There is a fat rubber washer/bung on the M9 stud and the stud pokes through frame and into the fuel tank bay. With me so far?

Once the stud comes through into the fuel tank bay, what goes on next? Just a penny washer, spring washer and nut? If so, it seems a bit primitive. Any rubber on the stud within the fuel tank bay?

Oh. I can't help but think that this arrangement would result in the hole getting bigger with wear. Hi hum

I kinda get what you`re thinking but once its tightened up any movement should be in the rubber block below. But I guess if the hole is all big and rusty then it could move around bit, wearing the hole some more.

Hi Martin,
It sounds like you have the later shock with the integral thread, this has a rubber bush either side, the upper bush is a different shape, SIP part number 17185000
Cheers

Thanks Boreham.

The part number is 17815000, but I am grateful for the pointer and the advice.

I've got to be honest, there doesn't seem to be enough of the stud sticking through into the fuel tank bay for such a bush to fit, but I will order one up and see how it goes.

I guess a penny washer, spring washer and M9 nut go above the new rubber doughnut.
