Quick engine check..OH NO

Right after all the paranoia about new sil 200 engines, with 250 miles on the clock thought I would change oil early (belt and braces)..more iron filings than an enginnering workshop floor.. :o
Stripped sidecasing off and chain is very slack..I can get up to 10mm off the tape measure in slack chain..is this BAD..think I know the answer..

I can move the clutch spider in and out (lots of play) should this be tight with no play..(think I know the answer to this one..
Gearbox: I can rock the gearbox with finger on the top and finger on the bottom again lots of play..is this right..

The reason Ive checked this as the clutch slips really bad at higher revs and after backing the cable right off to the point the bike creeps sat still its the same..

Bought from top dealer last year..3 months warranty gone so I will need to do the work myself and nip everything back up tight..

Annoyed...very Annoyed.. :flaming:

well i to had probs, 1st rear wheel wobble when it had only just been put into frame, when i stripped it their was play in the end plate, tried new bearing, tried to press the bearing track into the end plate but no movement their,so i took the end plate out of my 175 and its been ok.rang dealer about prob but because i had split the engine the warranty was VOID.then the trouble with the clutch slipping, but have sorted that with better plates, stronger springs, but also had to do some filing of the basket as it was catching on the spider +the top plate also needed a bit of filing but keeping my fingers crossed now and :D motoring

p.s hope u sort it soon lam46......paul

in all fairness the dealer might have bought what he thought were genuine SIL engines i did a thread about the pepsi can shim prob from the same place &erection scooters by any chance i could be arsed to drive the 90 miles to show them what i had found but i think you live closer .. if so id take it back warranty and what someone can reasonable expect from a new engine are differant things said company has been ok with suppling parts on another mates scoot after more than 6 months ,you need to check wear on all the loose parts now check for rock on the crown wheel the spider and chrown wheel should only have 0.1 mm between them with the spider being proud by 1/10th mm if it were me id strip the lot inc top end and have the crank rebuilt by someone like harry barlow he charged me 45 quid a few years ago

Even though these engines are genuine SIL, I would not recommend bolting one in straight out of the crate and setting off, every thing should be double checked first. IMHO. :ugeek:

Just looking at the endplate and its not seated back far enough so could be that as well not sat back correct causing the gearbox and crown wheel to be not tight up..

This is a picture of what was inside the SIL engine I bought Grit & Sand I put a post up a while ago about it but never put this picture up.... There was a fair deal of grubby stuff in the engine this was just the little that stuck to the inside of the case after the oil was drained...

IMO.... they need a good liberal coat of looking at before being run...
But still good value for money if you can get one..!!

Bought mine from Bruce about 18mths ago. I did have mazza crank, european bearings and seals fitted before delivery. One or two teething problems quickly sorted by Bruce and his guys. Apart from my own f*****g about has run extremely well 3600+miles on the clock now! Did change the clutch plates at 2500miles for surflex B as clutch starting to slip very slightly.Overall very good dealer experience.
