I think you will need to add the extra wire to the stator but you will also need to change the flasher relay and horn for DC versions. I might be wrong about the flasher but if it doesn't work, you'll know why ;)

Good point about the flasher Colin.

The Vespa flasher relay is odd that it flashes alternately front and back indicator. I don't know if there is a DC version of such an indicator relay, but as you say, it might work whether it is AC or DC. If it doesn't work, and you need to change the relay for a more traditional relay (both lights on; both lights off), you might find that the wiring to the switch needs to be changed too. Ouch.

Having said that, it might be easy to test the indicators by using a battery to mimic the DC power supplied by the wassell.

I accept no responsibility if you do this, and it all goes Pete Tong.

The Wassel DC conversion on its own won't give you better lights as you still end up with the same power output from the stator. It will however, give you lights that don't dim at low revs and will stay on without the engine running provided you install a decent sized battery and a better horn.

However, if you install a later clear PX headlamp reflector with the H4 fitting, the DC power will enable an HID lamp conversion which will be truly awesome and not be a drain on the battery 8-)
